July 2015 Reading List

So I didn't finish any of my June Reading books in June.  But, I did finish one in July.  And speaking of which, here's my other picks for July!

The Feast Nearby by Robin Mather is another food book.  I've been on a food book kick lately, reading Eat, Nourish, Glow and In Defense of Food last month, so I figured wny not make it a third.

Say You're One of Them by Uwem Akpan is a set of short stories that take place in Africa.  It sounds kind of gut wrenching, and it's not something I would normally read, but I think it's good to read things you normally wouldn't read every once in a while.

Wicked Appetite by Janet Evanovich was sent to me by Kenzie in my Favorite Color swap.  (Side note: my favorite color is yellow, want to see how she managed to send me a red book in a sea of yellow?  Check out the post.)  Anyhow, it's finally to give Janet Evanovich a try.  I've had about a bazillion people recommend her to me.

The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin was loaned to me by a friend.  I kept meaning to pick it up, but it wasn't until I heard Gretchen's podcast of the same name that I decided it was time to pull it off the shelf and give it a try.

So, that's what I'm planning on reading.  Any recommendations for the future?

  1. I just added your list to *my* reading list! It just keeps getting longer and longer...

I'm currently reading An Ocean In Iowa by Peter Hedges. It was pure coincidence that I found this book on the shelf, but it intrigued me since I live in Iowa. I am really enjoying it (halfway through now).
Last week I finished Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline and totally loved it.
    Summer reading is the best!

    1. "An Ocean In Iowa" sounds kind of sad (from what I read on Amazon). I hope it has a happy ending. :) I keep hearing good things about "Orphan Train" too. Thanks for sharing!

  2. I hope you share your feelings about "The Happiness Project" that sounds good. Right now I am reading "Somewhere In France."

Kathy, I have to check out "An Ocean In Iowa" since I live here too. I loved "Orphan Train" too.

    1. Okay Jolene, I don't normally go for romantic stories, but "Somewhere in France" sounds really good. Between the cover and the Amazon description it sounds a little like "The Bletchley Circle" and "Downton Abbey" crossed and moved to France. Added this one to my Amazon book list too!

  3. "Say You're One of Them" sounds similar to "A Long Way Gone," which, though hard to swallow, was a really great read. I just added it to my to-read list. I'm curious to hear your thoughts on "The Happiness Project" since I've read that one too. Good luck with your reading goal!

    1. I looked up "A Long Way Gone", they do sound like a similar vein- although "Say You're One of them is Fiction" and "A Long Way Gone" is not. I added "ALWG" to my Amazon book list.

I'm only about 70 pages into "The Happiness Project" but I'm liking it so far.

  4. Best of luck with those! I think it's good to break out of your comfort zone every once in awhile, and shake yourself up. :) The only one of those I've heard of is The Happiness Project, so I look forward to hearing your thoughts on all of them.
